For our columnist, the obligation for Muslim women to disclose on French beaches and hide in the Morocco is a same attack on their freedom.
The French controversy over the “burkini” perhaps inspired one another, less publicized and the comments reversed, but also regrettable. This happens in Morocco and also concerns the body of women. Omar Al-Kzabri, a popular religious leader in the country, and imam of the great mosque of Hassan II in Casablanca, launched 14 August on his Facebook page a charge against “obscene nudity” of some women in his country.

On two continents, the same phenomenon: men decide to what may or may not bring women. These controversies are not trivial, they stem from a desire to restrict their freedom. Despite the real progress of recent decades for equal rights, there is still a long way.
Even ineptitude, even intolerance
Our time is the resurgence of identity claims and Islamophobia in Europe mired in the economic crisis. Makes the bed of what the french sociologist Gaël Brustier called ‘moral panic’ of the West.
This time is also, in Muslim countries as in the Maghreb, marked by a reflux of progressivism and the advent of a conservatism embodied by arrival at the power of carrier formations of islam policy legalistic.

In France, this controversy of the burkini, under the guise of secularism to variable geometry, seems finally to summarize this: undress the woman. The censors of the beaches of the Côte d’Azur certainly prefer the Brazilian string protectors at an outfit that does not, alas, Show of pairs of tattooed buttocks.
In Morocco, even nonsense, same condescension and, especially, same fight against the bikini and others held “short.” In July, a Moroccan Facebook page, closed later, urged social network users to go Moroccan beaches to take the pictures stolen women in swimsuits to the designate to public condemnation.

Women, who nobody asks their opinion, are between the hammer of those who want to undress and anvil others who want the cover with a broad veil of chastity. In 2016, individuals from both sides of the Mediterranean have as project policy to dispossess women of its freedom to Choose its mode of life and its clothing.
Claiming free women of objections of fundamentalist dominant males or, on the contrary, a Western outfitter of obscenities, you imprisoned in a hurtful infantilization to justify a fear of invasion or a hypothetical national dilution.
In France, opponents of the burkini justify their attitude by the backup of “French values” that would threaten islam. In Morocco, the imam Al-Kzabri raises a whimsical ‘ conspiracy that officials tried to kill modesty, the values, the principles ‘ of a country whose head of State is also the Commander of the faithful.
The imam Omar Al-Kzabri is not isolated in its posture of Paragon of virtue. On the continent, millions of men think like him and decide to restrict the freedom of women to religious or social considerations. In a previous column, I referred to the case of the Senegalese singer goddess Major arrested for an outfit deemed sexy after the shouting of a band of intolerant illuminated. Recently, I met in Dakar someone who judged “the women getup” responsible for the low level of rain recorded in the Senegalese capital. Without laughing!

With speeches like those of imam Al-Kzabri, it is not surprising that the acts of rapes are not always condemned in our society, on the grounds that the victim should have to dress more decently.
Ridiculous controversy on the burkini in France and the repressive protrusions of the imam of Casablanca are part of a common will to refuse the right of women sovereignty over their bodies. These censures are intolerable and must mobilize the energy of the progressives. Women need not run the injunctions of those working daily against their rights. SE burkini swim or stroll in a miniskirt in the city without any apprehension or inquisitive eyes would already be a good start.
